The collection of philologist, Paul Haupt, consists of correspondence and research for an expedition in search of Assyrian and Babylonian antiquities, 1884-1888; 4 notebooks from his graduate studies at Leipzig, 1877-79; and 1 volume, "Notes from the Oriental Seminary," edited and annotated by Haupt. Some material is in German and the Semitic languages. A final item is a decorative cloth to accompany presentation of the First Eight Parts of the Old Testament in Hebrew, edited by Haupt, to Queen Victoria (Nov. 1898).

Paul Haupt was a noted philologist and a professor of Semitic languages at The Johns Hopkins University. He was born at Gorlitz, Germany, Nov. 25, 1858 and received the Ph. D. from the University of Leipzig in 1878. Haupt was appointed professor of Semitic languages at Hopkins in 1883, a position he held for forty-three years.
